Ott suspended for eye gouging....his douchiness seems to never end

DALLAS (AP) — Stars center Steve Ott was suspended indefinitely by the NHL on Sunday after he received a penalty for attempting to injure Anaheim's Travis Moen at the end of a game one day earlier.

Ott missed Sunday's home game against Pittsburgh and won't be eligible to play until after a hearing with league officials that will determine a specific length of the ban.

Ott and Moen squared off in a fight after the final horn sounded in Anaheim's 4-3 victory Saturday over Dallas. Ott's hand made contact with Moen's eye, which game officials ruled was an eye-gouge and gave him a match penalty for attempting to injure.

Ott left the ice with two cuts on his face.

The bout ensued after Ott cross-checked Ducks defenseman Scott Niedermayer during the final seconds of the game. Once time ran out, Anaheim goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere whacked Ott in the knee with his stick and punched Ott behind the head.

Moen saw Ott involved with Giguere and began punching Ott, who has a broken bone in his right hand and can't punch back. Ott said the eye-gouging was an accident.

The incident will be reviewed Monday by league disciplinarian Colin Campbell, who will determine the length of the Stars agitator's suspension.

"Steve Ott does what he does," Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said Saturday. "He gets into those situations and that's what happens."

  1. I watched the replay, and the beatdown which Ott received was excellent, but I never got a chance to see the eye gouge. Oh well. Apparently it's not even in question that he did it. Doesn't surprise me.

I'd wager that Ott is a bigger asshole than Avery.

See you come draft time, Dallas! The rest of the season is for contenders!

  2. When they are down on the ice, you can see Moen frantically kicking his legs. I'd assume that was when Ott was trying to turn him into a pirate....

  4. Hey, I can't stand Ott either, but what do you guys think about the Ducks not seeing any discipline? Ott was not allowed to fight, as he has a cast. Yes, yes, I know he deserves what he got for those nasty crosschecks... but 4 guys jumping in, including the goalie with less than 5 minutes remaining... seems fishy to me that there has been no official discussion of that situation. How can they call that shit 'squaring up'? He was hog tied by Giggy, shoved by Pronger, etc... behind the net and owned. Then there is the fact that his team didn't stand up for him. I know that is beside the point, as I am sure none of them were seeking suspension for fighting with less than 5, but with that the Ducks should be included in some manner of suspensions as well ...just sayin'

  5. Yea, Dallas is a bunch of sissy's. Even if that was a rookie like Plihal, everyone would have jumped in on that.

As far as the Ducks not getting any discipline, I'm pretty sure Giggy got 2 minutes and Moen took 5 min. Pronger did jump in, but he backed off once he saw that Moen took care of it. Funny, like 3-4 Ducks had dropped gloves ready to fuck up Ott...they just needed an excuse. What a douche.
